Abstract
In this edition of the “Nigerian Journal of Psychiatry” spouse violence against women was the focus of study by Adebayo et al (2010). An
overlapping pattern of violence was found in subjects studied and involved physical, psychological and sexual
dimensions; but the commonest of them was physical abuse following demand for sex when the women
(subjects) did not want it. Ewhrudjakpor (2010) from Delta State, South-South, Nigeria critically examined the family
dynamics of sufferers of alcoholism. He found significant negative family relationship as the major complaint against the alcoholics and the preference for unorthodox methods of treatment for the alcoholics by their relatives.
