A Case Report of a Virtual Treatment of a Nigerian Woman with A 15-Year History of Trichotillomania

Abstract
ABSTRACT
Background: Trichotillomania is characterized by the repeated urge to pull out one's hair, leading to psychological distress and functional impairment. It can last for several years if appropriate treatment is unavailable.
Methods: This is a clinic-based description of Trichotillomania.
Results: A 28-year-old married female who had been having recurrent hair-pulling for the past 15 years. She was managed using behavioral techniques first and thereafter pharmacotherapy via telecommunication platforms. Significant changes were observed a month after the commencement of therapy, and it was noticed to be sustained 5 months after disengagement from treatment. The disorder and the effectiveness of the virtual treatment offered were thereafter discussed.
Conclusion: We presented a case of Trichotillomania, with considered options of treatment such as behavioral therapy, pharmacotherapy, or both.
