The Importance of 'Group Social Support' in Treatment and Re-Union of a Declared Missing Paranoid Schizophrenic Patient With Her Family: A Case Report.

Abstract:

The emergence of psychiatric symptoms can present significant challenges for patients and their families, particularly when these symptoms manifest as an index problem. Paranoid symptoms, especially those directed towards family members, can lead to patients absconding from their homes, resulting in prolonged periods of uncertainty regarding their whereabouts. While some individuals may receive assistance from well-meaning strangers, others may find themselves in precarious situations, potentially involving criminal elements. In such cases, a combination of social support and medical intervention may be necessary to facilitate the reunification of these individuals with their families. This case report illustrates the complexities associated with managing paranoid schizophrenia, homelessness, and the importance of social support in the treatment process.
